The Wrecking Crew (2 discs)
What the Funk Brothers did for Motown…The Wrecking Crew did, only bigger, for the West Coast Sound. Six years in a row in the 1960’s and early 1970’s, the Grammy for “Record of the Year” went to Wrecking Crew recordings.
And now, The Wrecking Crew tells the story in pictures and that oh, so glorious sound. The favourite songs of a generation are all here, presented by the people who made them for you.
The Wrecking Crew is a documentary film produced and directed by Denny Tedesco, son of legendary late Wrecking Crew guitarist Tommy Tedesco. The film tells the story of the unsung musicians that provided the backbeat, the bottom and the swinging melody that drove many of the number one hits of the 1960’s.
It didn’t matter if it was Nat “King” Cole, Frank Sinatra, Nancy Sinatra, The Monkees, The Byrds or The Beach Boys, these dedicated musicians brought the flair and musicianship that made the American “west coast sound” a dominant cultural force around the world. The film is a fun and moving tribute from Denny to his father and to the music, the times and to the secret star-making machine known only as The Wrecking Crew.
Bonus extras include deleted clips, behind-the-scenes footage, additional songs and much more.
The Wrecking Crew won rave reviews and over a dozen awards when it played on the festival circuit. The film includes moving and candid interviews with Brian Wilson, Cher, Nancy Sinatra, Herb Alpert, Glen Campbell, Leon Russell, Roger McGuinn, Gary Lewis, Mickey Dolenz, Peter Tork, Al Jardine and the largest selection of Wrecking Crew members assembled since their session days.
Featuring 131 original music cues, the American Federation of Musicians has acknowledged that The Wrecking Crew contains one of the largest soundtracks of original recordings of classic hit songs of any film in history, with songs by the Beach Boys, Frank Sinatra, Nancy Sinatra, The Monkees, The Byrds, The Mamas & Papas, Sonny & Cher, Elvis, The Ronettes and dozens of others.
The Wrecking Crew will have its UK theatrical premiere alongside a live performance from Mari Wilson at the Arthouse Cinema in London’s Crouch End on Thursday 25 June 2015 before it rolls out in cinemas across the country and then on DVD nationwide.
