Nicky Campbell – Through It All

On ‘Through It All’, this ‘feel-great’ album, there are ten originals exploring the glorious contours of love and three delicious cover versions. The album was recorded with an array of fantastic musicians including the legendary Remi Harris Hot Club trio, violinist Xenia Porteous and of course, Nicky’s ukulele is never far away. An award-winning journalist, he’s a proper TV and Radio survivor with 43 years on the Radio and 38 years on Network TV. From Top of the Pops and Watchdog through to the Big Questions and the multi-award-winning Long Lost Family. And of course there was his memorable performances as Dippy Egg in the Masked Singer, which ended in “the best reveal ever”. Davina didn’t have a clue. On the lead single ‘Dream A Little Dream’, an old and bewitching song, he duets with his daughter Kirsty who has severe ADHD. She has to take medication to get through it all and has done amazingly. Nicky is passionate about the untapped potential of so many people who are not lucky enough to be properly diagnosed and are in situations in life which only make things worse. Awareness and understanding are all. And it’s all about those little dreams you dream being given a chance. Once he sang ‘Dream A Little Dream’ to baby Kirsty as a lullaby. Now 23 years later they have recorded the song together. That means the world to both of them. Nicky also performs the 1938 classic ‘I’ll Be Seeing You’ which he believes is one of the most poignant and powerful songs ever written. His version is a mere one minute and twenty seconds and he sings it from the heart for his adoptive Mum and Dad who both served this country in World War Two. Eighty years ago that hell officially ended but for many including Nicky’s Dad, it endured. “Frank and Sheila Campbell were the most wonderful people I will ever know. The day they adopted me was the day I won the lottery of life. And I see them every day, especially when I’m looking at the moon.”
