George Clinton – The Mothership Connection
Wienerworld are delighted to be releasing a DVD concert of funk founder George `Dr Funkenstein’ Clinton. Second only to James Brown, the world of rap and hip-hop has heavily sampled his unique songs and he has been citied as an influence by numerous people from Prince to the Red Hot Chili Peppers. His bands have included Parliament and Funkadelic and together they have created legendary theatrical stage shows, as well as ruling black music during the 70s, capturing over 40 R’n’B hit singles (including three #1s) and recording three platinum albums.
Mothership Connection is the 1975 album that put Clinton and Parliament-Funkadelic on the map–it gave Clinton his first gold album and launched his unique blend of funk, jazz, blues, and gospel as a genre unto itself. This programme captures Clinton and P-Funk on their Mothership Connection tour, performing funk classics like “Swing Down Sweet Chariot,” “Tear the Roof off the Sucker,” “Night Of The Thumpasorous Peoples,” and many more.
Their concerts resembled the excitement of a circus. The band dressed in wedding dresses, leather jumpsuits or flowing robes and helped to create a carnival atmosphere. Taken from a concert in Houston Texas on their first big tour, the Mothership Connection is like no other show ever seen. Recorded in the mid-seventies, this psychedelic experience even includes the Mothership (a mock flying saucer) landing on stage from which George Clinton emerges! The grand finale sees over 40 funksters take to the stage with numerous special guests.
