Carl Verheyen – Promised Future
The Carl Verheyen Band’s new album “Promised Future” is a working, touring band at its peak. Hear the shared joy in 9 songs, 8 studio & 1 live!
Over the last 38 years I’ve released albums under my own name as well as Carl Verheyen Band albums. In my way of thinking, there’s a big difference. The delineation rises out of the camaraderie and spirit that comes from weeks and even years on the road. Imagine leaving on a month-long tour and realizing you’re about to have the next 90 meals with each other as you travel the next 9,000 miles together. If you still good friends after all that, you truly have something special. And I believe that brother and sisterhood, plus the shared joy of hearing the music in the air each night makes it a BAND. “Promised Future” has 7 original songs that we’ve road tested before recording, which I believe is a privilege. Rick Davies from Supertramp would always lament that, “it’s too bad that the record is a demo for the tour,” as the music got better and deeper with repeated performances night after night. Rick was a dear friend and a real mentor to me ever since 1985 when I joined Supertramp, and sadly we lost him in 2025. So we recorded an 8 minute version of “Take the Long Way Home” live in concert and included it along with a song from another of my heroes, the late Jesse Colin Young. I wrote to Jesse as a teenage guitarist / fanboy, asking if I could play in his band. Amazingly he wrote me back and I still have that letter! “People let your light shine” are the beautiful lyrics he left us with, and we in the CVB all felt it was the perfect way to end “Promised Future.”
