The Ides of March – Play On: 55th Anniversary (LP)
• Brand new studio album from rock icons The Ides of March, celebrating their 55th anniversary
• This double vinyl gatefold edition features seven extra vintage tracks, including Vehicle, Superman and L.A. Goodbye
• The eight-man group includes the four original members who came together in 1964: Jim Peterik (guitar), Larry Millas (guitar), Bob Bergland (bass) and Mike Borch (drums)
• Special guests include Mark Farner (Grand Funk), Blues superstar guitarist Joe Bonamassa, Cathy Richardson (Jefferson Starship), David Pack (Ambrosia), Bo Bice (Blood Sweat & Tears), Paul Shaffer (David Letterman’s Band) and Tom Toad Doody (The Cryan Shames)
Formed in the mid-’60s in the Windy City, the original Ides were put together by founding member Jim Peterik as a teen band, strong on original material and British pop harmonies. By the late ’60s, Peterik had reconfigured the band to include a full horn section and a new sound and style for the band were born. Ever the crafty commercial songwriter, Peterik fashioned a new single, “Vehicle,” to showcase this sound. The record was a huge hit, spawning the sound-alike follow-up “Superman.” The other chart hit for the group (and a complete about-face from the horn-dominated sound of “Vehicle”) was the wistful “L.A. Goodbye.” After going on hiatus in 1973, the band returned with their original line-up in 1990 and has been active since then.
