Larry Carlton Trio – The Paris Concert (CD)

Larry Carlton’s Trio performance at Paris’s famed New Morning in April, 2008 was a dream for fans of high class guitar instrumental music. Playing in a Trio formation has always been a musical moment of truth for most pop, jazz, blues, and rock musicians – but for Larry it is an opportunity to showcase his spectacular, full-fledged exhibition of sophisticated groove, joy and grace. He is backed by rising star Travis Carlton (“Like Father, Like Son”, the “DNA factor”) on bass and master drummer Toss Panos.

Nineteen-time GRAMMY NOMINEE, four-time GRAMMY WINNER and all-time guitar great, Larry Carlton established himself from his first recording, A Little Help From My Friends. His studio credits include musicians and groups like Steely Dan, Joni Mitchell, Michael Jackson, Sammy Davis Jr., Herb Alpert, Quincy Jones, Bobby Bland, Dolly Parton, Linda Ronstadt and literally dozens of others.

Playing on the strings for over 4 decades and arguably one of the era’s most respected jazz guitarists, Carlton has had record productions with Steely Dan to album recordings with John Lennon and Michael Jackson.  He has rightfully earned the title “one of the best guitarists in rock music” (Rolling Stone Magazine).

Larry’s playing style was most influenced by guitarists Joe Pass, Wes Montgomery, Barney Kessel and B. B. King. Saxophonist John Coltrane has also made a notable impression on Carlton, and Carlton’s live albums have featured cuts from Miles Davis’s hallmark Kind of Blue.
