James Brown – Body Heat
James Brown was an American singer and entertainer. Referred to as “The Godfather of Soul”, Brown is recognized as one of the most influential figures in the 20th century popular music and was renowned for his vocals and feverish dancing. He was also called “the hardest working man in show business”.
As a prolific singer, songwriter, dancer and bandleader, Brown was a pivotal force in the music industry. He left his mark on numerous artists and also on the rhythms of African popular music, such as afrobeat, jùjú and mbalax and provided a template for go-go music. Churning out continual hits throughout the fifties through to the nineties, Brown’s most popular songs included ‘It’s A Man’s, Man’s, Man’s World’, ‘Get Up Offa That Thing’, ‘I Got You (I Feel Good)’, ‘Please, Please, Please’ and ‘Papa’s Got A Brand New Bag,’ amongst others.
Raising his dance of frenetic soul to high art, Brown set the standard for everyone from Mick Jagger to Michael Jackson. The ‘Godfather of Soul’ is captured live at Monterey, California in January 1979, performing some of his best known tracks such as ‘Get Up Offa That Thing’, ‘Sex Machine’ and ‘Please, Please, Please’.
