In 1973 when the local utility proposed a giant twin nuclear plant four miles from the Montague Farm, Sam Lovejoy toppled a 500-foot weather tower. Following his acquittal the group became leaders in the burgeoning “No Nukes” movement fighting against the plants across the country from Seabrook to Diablo Canyon. In 1979, they teamed up with Jackson Browne, Bonnie Raitt, Graham Nash and other committed rock stars to help produce the sold-out Muse concerts as well as a 250,000-person rally in New York City. With two filmmakers in their midst they also produced some critically acclaimed documentaries, and Far Out contains footage from the very beginning of the communes right up to the present day.

Performed in the historic Mosque-Cathedral of Córdoba, the event features Debney’s original concert arrangement alongside an extraordinary ensemble, including lyricist/vocalist Lisbeth Scott, worldwind soloist Pedro Eustache, the Ziryab Choir, and the Córdoba Orchestra under the direction of Kevin Kaska. Additional solo performances by tenor Juan Luque and soprano Maria Alonso enrich the presentation, blending Middle Eastern textures, choral grandeur, and symphonic depth into a deeply spiritual performance space more than a thousand years old.

The release coincides with the 15th anniversary of The Passion of the Christ, whose score became a gold-selling album and earned an Academy Award® nomination. Director Mel Gibson praised the expanded concert work, stating that Debney’s music “transcends its orchestrations to speak straight to the heart and soul, like a prayer.” The oratorio has been performed internationally, including a landmark presentation in Rome that received recognition from Archbishop Foley of the Vatican, underscoring the work’s global and interfaith resonance.

His long-running syndicated radio show created an entire genre of comedy music and launched the career of “Weird Al” Yankovic. Previously released on CD and digital only in 2017 this 110-minute concert performance from Dickey Betts,the legendary Allman Brothers Band guitarist, was recorded at the Calderone Concert Hall on Long Island, New York on August 11, 1978. The show features 13 tracks including the ABB classics “Jessica”, Southbound”, “In Memory of Elizabeth Reed”, “Blue Sky” and “Ramblin Man” along with tracks from the 1977 album from his Great Southern band. The triple LP set will be packaged in a gatefold sleeve with new liner notes from Allman Bros biographer Alan Paul, memorabilia and photos. Dickey’s recent passing has created a heightened appreciation and demand for his music and this brilliant performance on vinyl is certain to be highly collectible. The Allman Brothers Band’s At Fillmore East, was of course the album that captured the original Allman Brothers Band at their high water mark, showcasing a group as original and fiery as any ever to take a stage, spotlighting and fueled by Betts and Duane Allman’s remarkable playing. It’s the ghost that the band and all its members were always chasing. Performances like the one heard here show remind us how large of a part Betts played in the ABB’s brilliance and how he could summon the musical Gods on his best nights throughout his career. “When Dickey was feeling like this, his playing floated over time and existed on its own place. This performance is as good as any that I can recall the band doing.”

Blues Hall of Fame vocalist Jimmy Witherspoon teams up with guitar hero Robben Ford at Hollywood’s famed Troubadour in March of 1972. This never-before-released radio broadcast performance features nine tracks, including three Witherspoon originals plus classic songs from Willie Dixon, Sonny Boy Williamson, and Lieber and Stoller. This is one of the earliest recordings of Ford’s extraordinary career, starting back in 1970 with Charlie Musselwhite and Witherspoon before joining Tom Scott’s L.A. Express.

He went on to shred with Steely Dan, Kiss, Yellow Jackets, Miles Davis and lead on 25 of his own albums This limited-edition vinyl release will be pressed on cobalt blue vinyl exclusive to Record Store Day. Blues vocalist Jimmy Witherspoon and blues guitarist Robben Ford are at the peak of their performing career during this 1972 recording, backed by a young but enthusiastic electric band that he had recruited after hearing them open for him in a club the previous year. With a fresh, young band in tow, one that was designed to capitalize upon the electric blues resurgence that had occurred in the those years, Witherspoon delivers a set list that ran the gamut from his early hit single Ain’t Nobody’s Business What I Do to a stampeding cover of the Jerry Leiber-Mike Stoller composition Kansas City.

Witherspoon is in a playful mood, frequently speaking to the audience. The set is filled with several other Witherspoon’s most popular numbers, including “Past Forty Blues,” “My Babe” and “Spoonful.”.

Ultimately, their journey was about personal roots, their ancestral homeland, history and discovery. This documentary concert captures the story of black American souls connecting with black West African souls through the power of music. Now available for the first time in almost 20 years.
