It features charts and compositions from the noted musician and filmmaker Ed Bland who produced the set back in 1969. The 10-track set is sure to please crate digging jazz, soul and funk fans alike. The new pressing will be available on 180-gram vinyl. Dizzy Gillespie was one jazz giant who loved to explore new areas of self-expression. He was not only an exciting performer, his melodic and harmonic inventions are legendary. He had a remarkable insight into the rhythmic aspects of jazz. He swung in a highly personal way.

One of his most famous compositions is called “Con Alma,” and whether he played with or without a latin accent his music was always played with soul. It was Dizzy who spearheaded the use of afro-cuban rhythms in the jazz of the 40’s and 50’s, and added another dimension to the rhythm of jazz in the 60’s. His use of the samba rhythm came years before Bosa Nova was popular in this country.

During 2022 GIPSY KINGS, with founder member Tonino Baliardo, released their first studio album in over eight years on CD and digital formats. The album, Renaissance, was the launch pad for a frenetic year of international touring across Europe and America, with the band playing a 17 night tour in March and April 2023. A huge demand for a vinyl release was created when the band were invited back to America by popular demand for another 13 night tour in October and November 2023.

Wienerworld is now proud to announce the release of Renaissance on vinyl with two new tracks. Across the twelve tracks on this album, it is clear that the passion still burns strong inside Tonino Baliardo and his family of Gipsy Kings. The selection is delightfully varied, from the up-tempo ‘Chica Del Sol’ released as a single last year to the brand new hit single ‘Abandoned’/‘Abandonado’ (English Version), with new English lyrics penned by hit songwriter Brendan Graham, replacing the original CD version. Brendan, who wrote the smash hit ‘You Raise Me Up’ performed by Josh Groban, heard Abandonado and was so enthralled by the sentiment and passion of the song that he contacted Tonino with the idea of writing English lyrics.

Elsewhere on the album, as a great lover of classical music, Tonino has recorded his stunning interpretation of ‘Amadeo’ which is joined by the Gipsy Kings’ world-famous hit song Volare, a bonus track for this format only. A special mention also has to be made with regard to ‘Volando’, a track where Tonino’s young grandson Milan can be heard singing at the end. Who knows, perhaps a third generation of GIPSY KINGS?

Included with this beautifully packaged vinyl is an eight page fully illustrated booklet featuring great photos of the band.

Gipsy Kings featuring Tonino Baliardo are touring extensively in 2023 and 2024, bringing their unmistakable sound and showmanship to fans far and wide. Expect great Gipsy Guitar rhythms, unforgettable melodies and a Gipsy Vocal sound that only GIPSY KINGS can create!

Kitaro crafts Kojiki: A Story In Concert (Disc 1) from the ancient chronicle that recounts the birth of Japan and its people. The video documents a memorable performance from his 1990 world-tour.

Disc 2, An Enchanted Evening, was recorded 5 years later. Full and dramatic, yet surprisingly intimate, Kitaro transports the listener on a far-reaching East meets West musical journey filmed during concert tour of America.

In a special world peace event, Kitaro and his ensemble performed at the magnificent Yakushiji temple captured on Disc 3, Daylight Moonlight: Live In Yakushiji. The revered shrine is also the final resting place of Genjo Sanzo, whose journey on the ancient Silk Road more than a millennium ago inspired the performance.

Presenting a totally unique visual experience, Kojiki And The Universe (Disc 4) merges Kitaro’s GRAMMY® Nominated music from the album Kojiki with space-age photographic scenes of the Universe. The film features time-lapse images, expertly intertwined with real-time films in cooperation with NASA and Kyoto University.

This re-imagination of 14 songs by The Beatles is infused with American jazz and Brazilian styles of Bossa Nova, Samba, Choro, Partido Alto, Afoxé, Marcha Rancho and Frevo. ‘Blackbird’ has a nylon-strung guitar and vocal intro that sets the tone for this Brazilian-themed arrangement. Minas transforms the melody to something new while still keeping the theme recognisable. The male and female vocals of Haddad and King blend beautifully as the band builds a relaxed Brazilian feel. John Swana plays an expressive Evi solo, adding a modern colour while still being vivid. Haddad wrote this creative arrangement with a fresh approach to this classic Beatles melody.

‘With A Little Help From My Friends’ is another Brazilian arrangement that is all Minas. The concept came from Haddad and King with the horn arrangement provided by Andrew Neu. Haddad’s nylon-strung guitar keeps a Latin pattern as the horns accent the two vocalists trading melody phrases. Neu plays an exciting solo. The arrangement is rewarding, enabling us to hear the melodic lines, harmony, and orchestration from a different perspective. ‘Beatles In Bossa’ impresses with its natural, vibrant, and heartfelt presence, allowing us to hear and appreciate the colours and textures of the exceptional music of The Beatles through a Brazilian perspective and thoughtful performances.
