Remastered classic R&B funk album with 4 added bonus tracks not previously released!

This is a special remastered album by Chuck Brown and the Soul Searchers originally released in 1980. It precedes the Go-go sound he later created, but you can hear the initial elements of call and response and percussion breakdowns, as well as the signature tight horn and rhythm section of the Soul Searchers. The collection includes 4 tracks recorded at the same time but never before released, including a beautiful rendition of Johnny Guitar Watson’s ‘I Want To Ta Ta You Baby’.

Chuck Brown is a music innovator who started his career on Clarence Avant’s Sussex label before moving to Source. In the mid-eighties he fully developed his Go-go sound with hits like ‘We Need Some Money’, ‘Run Joe’ and ‘Go Go Swing’. In the 1990s, he recorded a jazz and blues duet album with the now platinum Eva Cassidy and dedicated the ‘Timeless’ album of jazz and blues standards to her after her passing.

In the 2000s, Chuck Brown had a huge resurgence with five Billboard charting albums over 12 years and a Grammy nomination. He was also awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award from the National Endowment for the Arts, a street was named after him and later (posthumously) Chuck Brown Memorial Park opened in Washington DC.

The ‘Funk Express’ album is a collectible collection of pure uplifting funk, R&B and body moving grooves, remastered for true music lovers to enjoy after being unavailable for decades. Get on board!

• A collection of tracks from sensational soul group of five brothers, Tavares

• Hits include Heaven Must Be Missing an Angel, More Than a Woman, Don’t Take Away The Music and Whodunit

The five-brother singing group Tavares may be best known for such up-tempo hits as the million-selling single “Heaven Must Be Missing an Angel,” “More Than a Woman,” and “Whodunit,” but they first came to national attention with the luscious ballad “Check It Out.” Their crisp vocalizing and clean-cut, young-men-next-door image made them favourites on TV shows starring Johnny Carson, Mike Douglas, and Dick Clark’s American Bandstand. In 1974, Tavares also had the first hit version (number one R&B) of “She’s Gone” written by the then relatively unknown duo of Daryl Hall and John Oates. Hall & Oates scored a number seven pop hit with the song in 1976.

The Tavares brothers — Arthur, Ralph Vierra, Perry Lee, Tavares and Feliciano, nicknamed “Pooch,” “Tiny,” “Chubby,” and “Butch” — started the group in 1964. Many of their hits underplayed their R&B background and gave the group the image of being a disco act. This perception was reinforced by their appearance on the soundtrack to the film Saturday Night Fever in 1977. Tavares recorded the Bee Gees song “More Than a Woman”, and their version reached the Pop Top 40 that year. The soundtrack became one of the most successful in history, giving Tavares their only Grammy.

The group continues to tour all over the world and will be performing in the UK with the Four Tops and the Temptations in November 2018.

TRACKLISTING
    Whodunnit
    Don’t Take Away The Music
    It Only Takes A Minute
I Hope You’ll Be Very Unhappy Without Me
    Bad Times
    Turn Your Love Around
    More Than A Woman
Never Had A Love Like This Before
You Are The Words , You Are The Music
    Check It Out
Remember What I Told You To Forget
    She’s Gone
Heaven Must Be Missing An Angel

• Spice of Life is a collection of tracks that span Al Wilson’s entire career

• Originally released in 2001, this reissue includes the smash hits Show And Tell, Touch And Go and The Snake

Al Wilson has one of the smoothest, most reliable voices in the world of soul music. Best remembered for the #1 pop hit “Show and Tell,” he toured the local nightclub circuit in LA before joining the R&B vocal group the Jewels; from there he landed with the Rollers, followed by a stint with the instrumental combo the Souls.

In 1966, Wilson signed with manager Marc Gordon, who quickly scored his client an a cappella audition for Johnny Rivers. The “Secret Agent Man” singer not only signed Wilson to his Soul City imprint, but also agreed to produce the sessions that yielded the 1968 R&B smash “The Snake.”

In 1973, Wilson issued the platinum-selling Weighing In — the album’s success was spurred by the shimmering “Show and Tell,” a Johnny Mathis castoff that sold well over a million copies. “The La La Peace Song,” released in 1974, proved another major hit, and two years later, “I’ve Got a Feeling We’ll Be Seeing Each Other Again” peaked at number three on the R&B chart. With 1979’s “Count the Days” Wilson scored his final chart hit and he spent the next two decades touring clubs and lounges.
