FAQ

Important Information

The music DVD I have purchased from your catalogue appears to play in black and white but it should play in colour, Is it faulty?

Most likely it is not faulty. Some of our programmes are produced from the original NTSC masters in the U.S.A. Most DVD players will automatically adjust the video output to suit your television, so you should enjoy the programme in full colour as the originator intended.

If however, your picture appears normal in all ways, but without colour, you may need to change a simple setting on your DVD Player. The following is a generic outline of the controls that may be available. (Please refer to the operation manual for your player for specific details.)

Assuming your DVD player is connected to your television using a scart cable AND that other DVD video discs play in full colour, please check the following:

(1) Tune your television to the DVD input channel and switch your DVD player ON with NO DISC in the tray.

(2) Press the SET-UP button on the remote control. Some players (eg. Pioneer) use the MENU button with no disc loaded for this function.

(3) You should see a list of available options displayed on the television screen at this point. (The Operating Manual for your player will give specific details.)

. If you have an option to select the TV TYPE, scroll to that option using the arrow keys on your remote control and press the ENTER or OK button. (Many players are factory set and do not allow a manual option. Go to the next point if your equipment does not have a TV TYPE option.) Select the AUTO output if available, otherwise select QUASI-PAL or PAL60. Press the ENTER or OK button to make the selection.

. Scroll through the on screen menu to find a heading named AV OUTPUT or TV OUTPUT. (Not all players give you this option. If it is not available on your player skip ahead to point 6.)

. Use the arrow keys to highlight the AV or TV OUTPUT, then press ENTER or OK on your remote control.

. You should be presented with two or more of these options,

RGB: will play the disc in colour if the correct SCART connector is used.

S-VIDEO: should play the disc in colour, but may not if the SCART connection is incorrect. (It is usually possible to use a separate S-Video cable to connect your DVD player to the television. If those connections are available onboth sets, using them should eliminate any problems. An S-Video cable may be purchased from most home electronic outlets.)

VIDEO: should play the disc in colour. You may wish to use the COMPOSITE VIDEO output (the Phono jack on the back with the YELLOW colour ring) from your DVD player to connect your television if Video mode is chosen. The RGB option is recommended (if available) or S-Video if not. (If either RGB or S-Video are selected, switch to the other option and try the disc.) Use the arrow keys to highlight the chosen option and press ENTER or OK.

(4) Press the SET UP (or MENU) button to switch the display off.

(5) Load the Wienerworld DVD and confirm it plays in colour. The setting you changed will not affect any other disc you play, but will enable your system to play any NTSC disc coded for Region 2, along with any European standard PAL disc. ENJOY THE PROGRAMME!

(6) If your player does not give you an option to select the video output, or you have followed the steps above and still do not have the programme in colour, you will need to

look at the connections between your player and the television. (At this point it is strongly recommended you refer to the chapter on CONNECTIONS in your DVD player OPERATING MANUAL.) Please make certain your system is connected following the manufacturers recommendations. If not, the system may not perform as intended and you may not get full enjoyment from your player.

(7) If you are unsuccessful getting a colour picture using the SCART connector, try to connect the video to the television using the COMPOSITE VIDEO output (the Phono jack on the back with the YELLOW colour ring). If that provides a colour picture you may have a problem with your SCART lead.

(8) If the DVD still plays without colour, please contact our helpline on 020 8206 1177. Please have the make and model of your DVD player and television available to help us resolve the problem.

If the video or audio performance is incorrect in any other way please contact your dealer.
